Forum Summary

The Epilepsy Therapy Project was founded in 2002 by parents of children with epilepsy.  Its focus is to facilitate the development of new therapies for epilepsy.  Fifty million people are affected with epilepsy worldwide, and the death toll from the disease matches or exceeds that from breast cancer.  Seventy percent of people with epilepsy endure side effects, such as impaired mental functioning, from medication, and currently available drugs are of limited efficacy.  The Epilepsy Therapy Project seeks to bring talented people from science and business together with funding in order to promote the discovery and commercialization of new therapies.
