CIMIT Grant Program

CIMIT Grants support early stage, collaborative research projects for improving patient care, with emphasis on devices, procedures, diagnosis, and clinical systems. To be considered for a CIMIT Grant, a proposal must present a collaborative, multi-disciplinary plan of work that specifically advances the likelihood that a new concept will yield benefit in the healthcare setting. CIMIT values proposals by teams that reach across Consortium institutions and whose novel ideas may create technologies that can benefit several medical disciplines.

CIMIT awards grants to principal investigators on faculty at the CIMIT Consortium institutions. Projects may include team members from other academic institutions and collaborators from industry. CIMIT currently funds projects across its portfolio of Programs, but remains open to any innovative use of technology to improve patient care. For FY11 Innovation Grants, CIMIT is particularly interested in two areas:

  • New approaches in neurotechnologies; the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI), neurotrauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); and the evaluation and management of pain.
  • Innovations that address clinical problems that would benefit from interoperability of medical data, devices and clinical systems and/or integration of clinical environments.

CIMIT does not support drug development, information technology-centric projects, basic research, or clinical trials.

All investigators (especially first-time applicants) are urged to contact the CIMIT Site Miner at your institution and the leaders of CIMIT Program(s) most relevant to your application. Site Miner(s) can answer questions and connect you with CIMIT leaders and staff. All can help you network with other CIMIT institutions, suggest potential collaborators, and advise on developing your pre-proposal application.

Seed funding is only one of the benefits of a CIMIT grant.

Equally important is the expertise of our facilitators who help researchers move projects forward.
