FDA Technology Forecast Project

March, 2007: John Parrish, MD, CIMIT Director, was one of 15 national leaders in the field of medical devices and technology invited by the FDA to discuss where they see great promise for breakthroughs in the next 10 years. Venture Capitalists are focused in the areas of spinal prosthesis, congestive heart failure and neurostimulation. Biotechnology experts are concentrating in the areas of spine nucleus replacements and the convergence of device and pharmaceuticals. In all, the Project has compiled a long list of technologies. Dr. Parrish prepared for this session by gathering insights from many CIMIT clinical research leaders. He reports back that CIMIT is very much at the forefront of these emerging technologies. Not only is our community well aware of future healthcare needs and technologies, but CIMIT researchers are already engaged in very leading edge research for every field that was mentioned during this futuring discussion.
