Med-Storm Innovation joins CIMIT's Industry Liaison Program

Med-Storm Innovation (MSI) is a Norwegian medical technology company, based in Oslo and interested in the U.S. market. MSI has developed the first commercial reliable product for detecting pain in non-communicating patients such as pre-term infants, intensive-care patients, patients under anesthesia, and post-operative patients. MSI’s device is the Skin Conductance Algesimeter which analyzes emotional sweating (skin conductance) for monitoring and detecting pain and awakening of patients. MSI has launched the Skin Conductance Algesimeter in Europe, Australia and Canada. The equipment has a CE approval, and a 510K application has been filed. MSI plans to launch the Skin Conductance Algesimeter in the U.S. market during 2009, if possible.

In the U.S., inadequate analgesia in hospitalized patients in 2001 prompted the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, JCAHO, to introduce standards which require pain assessment and treatment. The standards also sought to prevent pain awareness from patients under anesthesia. The patient’s pain is assessed and noted. To monitor pain has led to increased patient satisfaction with pain management.

CIMIT represents a unique opportunity for MSI to apply its science and commercial strategies in the U.S. by collaborating with CIMIT clinicians and appropriate member companies. More information about Med-Storm can be found at www.med-storm.com.
