What kinds of companies join the ILP?

What are the benefits of ILP membership?
Members with basic benefits get Access to the CIMIT network, Heightened Visibility within the CIMIT community, and Accelerated Knowledge to gain critical insights into clinical challenges and the future of healthcare to help form needed collaborations. Member companies are also eligible to create additional customized services on a fee for service basis to meet targeted business and R&D goals. More about benefits. Eligible small business members can also participate in the Small Business Program.

What is the cost of membership?
Membership is on an annual basis. Small businesses contribute $5,000 to join the ILP. In specific cases, it may be agreed upon that in-kind contributions of equipment and services may be made in lieu of some portion of the membership fee. Large companies contribute $25,000 - $50,000 depending on their specific needs and goals, and should consult a liaison to determine the appropriate fee structure.

Does CIMIT provide funding to companies?
No. Although CIMIT funding is available only to investigators on staff at our consortium institutions, CIMIT can assist eligible companies in obtaining government funding via SBIR/STTR grants. Companies must be members of CIMIT's Industry Liaison Program (ILP) to access this help. See the Small Business Program for more information.

How do I learn about licensing opportunities?
CIMIT does not own intellectual property, the patents are managed through the offices of Corporated Sponsored Research and Licensing at each institution. Non-members should speak directly with those offices, however, member companies can benefit from CIMIT's assistance in this process. Since, many of our projects are multi-institutional collaborations, the ILP will provide guidance and help you navigate the many licensing offices. For more information about joining the ILP.

How can I meet CIMIT researchers and clinicians?
For member companies, CIMIT can identify relevant clinical and technical experts and facilitate the introductions.
Given CIMIT's vast network and engagement with the clinical community, CIMIT serves as an ideal source for reaching relevant experts at the appropriate time.

How can I participate as an individual since membership is not applicable at this time for my company?
There are two ways to get involved with CIMIT (non-consortium, private sector). The ILP is designed for companies seeking collaborative research opportunities within CIMIT. The CIMIT Friends Program is designed for individuals wishing to support CIMIT's research in a philanthropic way.

I am an investigator. How can I take advantage of the services of the ILP?
The Industry Lisison Program (ILP) works to accelerate the work of our investigators by teaming them with relevant industry partners to creat mutually beneficial collaborations. If you are seeking a partnership with industry -- whether it be help to derlop a prototype, a need for a specific capability found in industry, or a company to commericalize your technology -- the ILP group may be able to help make the right connection for you. In addition, if you are already working with a commercial partner and need guidance of any kind, our group may have the answers you need.

The ILP group is often the first place companies come looking for well qualified clinical experts with whom to partner on their research. Much of our work involves reaching out to the CIMIT community of investigators to find the right clinicians for CIMIT member companies. the more we know about your interests and goals, the better able we'll be to match you with fruitful collaobrative opportunities.

I am interested in starting my own company. Is there someone at CIMIT who can help and answer my questions about commercialization strategy?
