Applicant Eligibility
Applications from all sources will be considered including domestic or foreign, public or private, or non-profit or for-profit. Applicants from low- and middle-income countries either independently or in collaboration with developers in high resource countries are encouraged to apply. Teams consisting solely of applicants from low- and middle-income countries will be given special consideration.
Justification
Our mission is to support the development and facilitate commercialization of a pipeline of POCT designed to meet the clinical needs of PLWHA in LMICs. To achieve our goals, we will support projects from both US and foreign institutions with preference for those with collaborations/connections that could facilitate eventual field testing, implementation evaluations, and manufacturing within LMICs.
Unique Proposal Sections
Section that describes how the device/test is applicable to LMIC settings with limited access to electricity, land-line communication, refrigeration, or central clean water supply. Section that discusses cost of POCT and disposables.
Section that describes how the proposed project addresses one or more of the AIDS Office of Research High Priority Research Topics which includes:
- Reduce the Incidence of HIV, including supporting the development of safe and effective vaccines, microbicides, and pre-exposure prophylaxis.
- Develop Next-Generation HIV Therapies with improved safety and ease of use.
- Conduct Research Toward HIV Cure.
- Address HIV-Associated Comorbidities, Coinfections, and Complications through research designed to decrease and/or manage these conditions.
- Advance Cross-Cutting Areas of research in the basic sciences, behavioral and social sciences, epidemiology, implementation science, information dissemination, and research training.

Unique Review Criteria
- Proposals will be evaluated on whether the device/test is applicable to LMIC settings with limited access to electricity, land-line communication, refrigeration, or central clean water supply. Section that discusses cost of POCT and disposables.
- Each project must address one or more of the AIDS Office of Research high priority research topics.
Projects not selected for funding will be offered mentoring and assistance through C-THAN cores and other resources available through POCTRN to improve projects, prototypes, or assays for subsequent funding cycles.
